The Slavia melon variety belongs to the late-maturing group; the period from full germination to the first harvest of fruits ranges from 82 to 111 days. The plant is vining with a main vine length of 1.5-2.0 meters. The fruits have an oval shape, yellow-green color, smooth surface with a coarse, medium-textured netting. The fruit mass varies from 1.2 to 3.2 kg, making them quite large and attractive to consumers.
The melon flesh is white, dense, juicy, and has a delicate melon aroma. The flesh thickness is about 4-5 cm, which ensures a pleasant texture and rich flavor. The taste qualities of the fruits are excellent, and their sweetness and aroma make the variety popular among melon lovers. The fruits differ in high transportability and storability, capable of maintaining their taste qualities for up to 30 days after harvest.
For growing the Slavia variety, sowing for seedlings in late April with subsequent transplanting into open ground in late May – early June is recommended, when seedlings reach an age of 30-35 days. In southern regions, direct sowing in the ground in April-May is possible. Plants are tied to trellises, side shoots are removed up to a height of 50 cm, and the main vine is pinched above the 1-3rd leaf to form the vine. During the fruiting period, to increase sugar content in the fruits, waterings are recommended to be reduced. The yield of the variety reaches 20-25 tons per hectare or 2.0-3.1 kg per square meter when grown on dry land.
