Samars'ka

Watermelon variety 'Samarskaya' was developed at the Dnepropetrovsk Vegetable and Melon Experimental Station and has been recommended for cultivation in the Volga-Vyatka, North Caucasus, and Ural regions since 1987. This variety is valued for its resistance to soil and air drought, making it a reliable choice for various climatic conditions. The fruits are oval in shape and weigh from 1.7 to 4.2 kg. The rind is thin and flexible, with a pale-yellow or yellow-green color and a sparse netting. The flesh is thick, white or pale-green, oily, sticky, tender, and juicy, with a characteristic melon aroma.

'Samarskaya' is a early-maturing variety, allowing harvest within a short period. Commercial yield ranges from 1.3 to 2.6 kg per square meter. Due to its characteristics, the watermelon is suitable for cultivation both in open ground and under limited irrigation, while maintaining high fruit quality.

For planting, seeds are sown directly into open ground at the end of May to a depth of 4–5 cm. In colder regions, it is recommended to grow seedlings: seeds are sown at the end of April into individual pots, and seedlings are transplanted into open ground at the end of May to early June after the threat of spring frosts. The recommended planting scheme is 70 cm between plants in a row and 150 cm between rows, ensuring optimal conditions for plant growth and development.
