Description Ducral
Ducral F1 watermelon — an early-maturing hybrid of yellow Canary type, developed by the Dutch company Rijk Zwaan. The period from seedling transplanting to harvest is approximately 60-75 days, allowing for relatively quick fruit production. The plant is vigorous, with long stems and a well-developed root system, well-adapted to various climatic conditions and soil types, except for highly saline, acidic soils and areas with high groundwater levels. The bushes have a strong leaf canopy that protects fruits from scorching sun and demonstrates resistance to fungal diseases such as fusarium and powdery mildew. Ducral watermelon fruits are oval-shaped, 25-26 cm long, with an average weight of 2.5 to 3 kg. The rind is lemon-yellow, smooth or slightly ribbed, and sufficiently firm, ensuring good storage and transport durability. The flesh is light, milky-cream-colored, tender, juicy, and uniform, with a small seed cavity. The fruits have a very sweet flavor, with sugar content of 12-13%, and possess a characteristic herbal-honey aroma. Due to these qualities, Ducral watermelon is highly valued on fresh markets and can be stored under cool conditions for more than two months without loss of market quality. The hybrid exhibits high and stable yield — 3 to 5 kg per plant, and 20 to 80 tons per hectare at the recommended planting density of 5,000 to 8,000 plants per hectare. Plants can withstand heavy fruit load even under stress conditions, ensuring uniform fruit ripening. Thanks to its adaptive properties, disease resistance, and excellent taste, Ducral watermelon is an excellent choice for cultivation both in open fields and under cover.
