The Gledstoun onion is a mid-early white onion with a maturity period of 90 to 110 days. The bulbs are round in shape with a white dry outer skin; the average mass of a mature bulb is between 100 and 180 grams, with individual specimens reaching up to 145-160 grams. The onion has a semi-sweet taste with a slight spiciness, making it versatile for consumption both fresh and in various culinary dishes, especially salads and fresh vegetable appetizers.

The Gledstoun variety is distinguished by its high yield—up to 5-6 kilograms of mature onions can be obtained from 100 grams of planting material, with yields reaching up to 6 kg per square meter. The onion is resistant to adverse weather conditions, bolting, and common diseases, including pink and fusarium rot. Thanks to these qualities, the variety is suitable for cultivation in various regions and can be used both in amateur and commercial farming.

A special advantage of the variety is excellent storability and preservation of the harvest, allowing the onion to be stored for up to 8 months without loss of quality. The planting material is presented as small sets (small bulbs) with a diameter of 1.5–2.5 cm, which are easier to grow and are less susceptible to pests and diseases compared to seed sowing. Gledstoun onion is valued for stable maturation, high productivity, and versatility in food and folk medicine applications.
