Alfalfa Lyubava

Stability and reliability: The Lyubava breeding standard

The 'Lyubava' alfalfa variety is the result of long-term development by the Institute of Fodder and Agriculture of Podillia, NAAS of Ukraine. Designed specifically for the fluctuating climate of the forest-steppe zone, this variety has established itself firmly in the forage crop segment as a benchmark for resilience and long-lasting stand life.

Agronomic profile

Unlike many intensive imported hybrids, 'Lyubava' is oriented towards sustainable farming. Reaching a height of 70–90 cm, the variety forms a dense, robust bush with excellent leafiness, which is a critical factor for achieving high nutritional value in hay.

• Phytosanitary barrier: A key characteristic of 'Lyubava' is its genetic resistance to root rot. This makes the variety less dependent on chemical fungicide applications and allows for sustained productivity over 3–4 years without significant thinning.
• Growth dynamics: The variety demonstrates stable regrowth after each cutting, allowing farmers to plan for 3–4 full harvests of green mass per season, depending on moisture availability.

Market position

'Lyubava' remains highly sought after by producers who prioritize high-quality feed for dairy farming while maintaining reasonable management costs. Its popularity stems from the combination of Ukrainian breeding—perfectly adapted to local soil and climatic conditions—and predictable yield performance. This variety is the choice for those who invest in stand longevity and secure their yields through superior resistance to soil-borne pathogens.
