Description GZHEL'SKIJ SEMKO
Gzhel'skij Semko – a mid-early variety of watercress that quickly reaches market readiness within 40–45 days after germination. Plants grow up to 70 cm in height and have leaves with two to seven pairs of elongated or oval side lobes and a rounded terminal lobe. For optimal growth, it is recommended to cultivate via seedlings, direct sowing at the end of May–early June, or by cuttings; when reaching 10–30 cm, plants are cut to form a compact crown. The mass of one plant is approximately 50–60 g.

The variety is distinguished by its sharp mustard flavor and rich content of iodine, minerals, and vitamins, making it a valuable ingredient both in fresh salads and various home-cooked dishes. Besides gastronomic benefits, Gzhel'skij Semko is also used for therapeutic purposes, for example, in diabetes.

For cultivation in protected ground or in a garden, a planting scheme of 20×20 cm is recommended; yield ranges from 0.8 to 1.2 kg/m². In home conditions, a small amount of seeds (approximately 0.3 g) can be used to obtain fresh leaves suitable for consumption in salads and vegetable dishes.
