Ricinus communis L. variety 'Julia' is intended for the production of oilseeds and food use. The plant belongs to medium-early varieties with a vegetative period of 112–122 days and a stem height of 80 to 105 cm. The stem is green with a slight waxy coating, the main stem is long and contains a small number of nodes; first-order racemes are limited in number.
The raceme has a medium-density conical shape, the length of the productive part is 35 cm. The box is dark green in color, medium-sized, breaks into compartments and is covered with weak spines. The seeds are grey with a characteristic pattern, size about 0.4 cm, mass of 1000 seeds is 216 g. The seed shelling rate ranges from 29–36%. The oil content in absolutely dry seeds ranges from 54.0% to 59.0%, and the yield varies from 6.8 to 16.9 centners/ha.
'Julia' is characterized by resistance to lodging, shattering and drought, as well as shows protection against powdery mildew and nematode. The variety is included in the state register and is suitable for cultivation in a wide range of climatic zones, including northern, central, southern and Siberian regions. Due to high oil content and resistance to adverse conditions, this variety is the preferred choice for both industrial oil production and the food segment.
