Dione lettuce – an early leaf corn-salad developed by breeders from Rijk Zwaan in the Netherlands. The variety is grown both in open ground from spring to autumn and in greenhouses year-round, making it available on the fresh vegetable market almost throughout the season.
Dione is characterized by high yield: heads weigh between 350 g and 600 g, and the vegetation period is 55–65 days. The plant grows well on fertile soils and is not demanding regarding climate – it withstands short-term temperature drops, although regular watering is required during dry periods.
Salad leaves are dark green, neat, and resistant to curling. They are tender with a pleasant nutty aftertaste, which makes Dione popular in fresh mixes and vegetable salads. The harvest is transported packed, retains taste qualities, and has a long storage period without quality loss.
Variety advantages include resistance to major diseases, good growth strength, and the possibility of cultivation under various conditions – open ground, greenhouse, or closed ground. Dione is ideal for both professional fresh vegetable markets and home consumption, where taste, texture, and product reliability are valued.
