Corn salad BONVITA

Genetics and Leaf Morphology

The 'Bonvita' lamb's lettuce from Enza Limited is the result of focused breeding efforts by Enza Zaden Beheer B.V. to standardize commercial product quality. The core technical advantage of this hybrid lies in the morphology of its leaf rosette: the leaves feature a distinct rounded shape and compact size. This structural design allows for high-density planting without compromising air circulation, which is a critical factor in preventing fungal diseases in high-humidity cultivation environments.

Visual and Culinary Attributes

The deep dark-green coloration is a result of intense chlorophyll accumulation, which, combined with a delicate leaf texture, makes the variety highly sought after for premium fresh salad segments. The plant maintains pigmentation stability even under fluctuating temperature conditions. This robustness simplifies post-harvest management, ensuring the product maintains its marketability significantly longer than less refined varieties.

Industrial Significance

Developed at Enza Zaden facilities in the Netherlands, this variety is engineered for industrial-scale operations. Lead originators Jan Draaistra and the company's breeding team prioritized the equilibrium between growth rate and rosette density. For agricultural producers, the practical benefit is streamlined logistics and processing: the small size and circular geometry of the leaves minimize mechanical damage during automated harvesting and packaging. Utilizing professional seed stock from Enza Limited guarantees superior germination rates and crop uniformity in every harvest batch.
