Poppy STILLGREY

Oilseed and Confectionery Poppy: The Potential of the 'Stillgrey' Variety

The breeding efforts of the 'Sk Russkiy Mak' company focus on developing highly specialized varieties, and 'Stillgrey' is a prime example of this strategy. This variety is utilized in both the oil-processing and food industries, making it a versatile tool for any agronomist.

Agronomic Profile

A critical factor in poppy cultivation is its susceptibility to pathogens. 'Stillgrey' stands out among its peers due to its distinct resistance to Helminthosporium, which allows for reduced fungicide application in the field and, consequently, lower production costs. Under standard cultivation conditions, the weight of 1000 seeds ranges from 0.4 to 0.5 grams, meeting high quality standards for culinary poppy seeds.

Who is this variety designed for?

• Agricultural holdings planning crop rotations to target both the oil and food industries.
• Farms operating in regions with a high risk of fungal infections, where crop immunity is a critical success factor.
• Producers focusing on stable seed quality with high weight, which simplifies post-harvest processing and sorting.

Choosing 'Stillgrey' is a commitment to efficiency. Unlike many hybrids that require rigorous control of nutrition intensity, this variety demonstrates a predictable response to soil fertility, minimizing the risks of a poor season. However, it is essential to note that maximum yields are achieved when optimal sowing density is maintained, as poppies are highly sensitive to light and require adequate space to thrive.
