Description Fifty Grand
Fifty Grand is a tall bearded iris distinguished by its magnificent ruffled flowers measuring 10 to 15 cm in length. The plant reaches a height of about 97 cm, and the flowering period lasts 2–3 weeks at the end of May to early June. The flowers feature blue-white upper petals with a light lavender tint and dark-blue lower petals, creating a contrasting effect. They are fragrant with a delicate scent and remain decorative even after flowering ends thanks to their dense foliage.

For successful growth, Fifty Grand requires a sunny, dry location with well-drained soil. Preparation involves mixing peat, sand, and compost, as well as adding a small amount of wood ash to enhance color brightness. The rhizome is planted at a depth of 12–15 cm in a hole measuring 40×40 cm, leaving the roots level with the soil surface and forming a small mound for better drainage. The distance between plants should be 30–40 cm for tall varieties.

Care includes regular watering after dry spells, especially in the morning or evening, while avoiding water splashing on the leaves. After flowering ends, spent flower stems should be cut back to the base, leaving healthy green foliage. Sick or dried leaves are removed to prevent fungal diseases.

Fertilization is done in three stages: early spring – nitrogen fertilizers; during bud formation – nitrogen-potassium; one month after flowering – phosphorus-potassium. Bone meal, superphosphate, and complex NPK (6–10–10) help maintain healthy growth.

Fifty Grand is a perennial plant with good resistance to diseases and pests. It should be transplanted or divided every 3–4 years, preferably after flowering or by the end of September. This iris variety is ideal for garden compositions with other tall plants and perennials, as well as in open flowerbeds where its grandeur attracts attention.
