Hop Regent

Technical Profile of the 'Regent' Hop Variety

Developed by the Institute of Hop Growing of the UAAS, the 'Regent' variety is categorized as an aromatic hop designed for brewers seeking to enhance the sensory profile of their beer. The technological value of this hybrid lies in its balanced ratio of alpha acids and essential oils, making it an ideal candidate for late-kettle hopping applications.

Agronomic Characteristics and Pest Resistance

Unlike many imported cultivars, 'Regent' is specifically optimized for the climatic conditions of Ukraine, ensuring consistent seasonal development. A key engineering advantage of this hybrid is its innate resistance to prevalent agricultural pests, which simplifies plantation management:

• Wireworms: the root system of the 'Regent' variety displays significant tolerance to soil-borne pests, which is critical for long-term hop cultivation stability.
• Weevils: its phytosanitary resilience reduces the necessity for frequent insecticide intervention, allowing for efficient pest population control via standard agronomic practices.

These features help in lowering the overall chemical load on the plantation while maintaining high-quality hop cones suitable for high-end brewing. The timing of harvest is crucial for this aromatic variety, as achieving peak concentrations of essential oils requires precise monitoring of plant maturity and moisture content.
