Description Panskyi
Panskyi hazelnut is a vigorous shrub with a round, dense crown and large, semi-suspended leaves of elliptical or rounded shape. The leaves are dense and reach significant sizes — up to 14 cm in length and 12 cm in width. The shrub is characterized by high growth vigor and forms an open, non-dense crown, facilitating care and pruning. The variety is suitable for cultivation on small garden plots as well as in commercial orchards, demonstrating stable and high yields. The fruits of the 'Panskyi' hazelnut have round-oval or broad-conical shapes, medium size, and weigh between 2.5 to 3.5 grams. The shell is thin and easily cracks, facilitating harvest and processing of nuts. The nut kernel is large, dense, fully fills the shell, and has a rich, sweet taste with a pleasant aroma. The ripening period falls in mid-September, allowing timely and efficient harvest. The kernels retain well during long-term storage, making the variety attractive for commercial cultivation. The 'Panskyi' variety exhibits high frost resistance, tolerating temperatures down to -30 °C, as well as resistance to spring frosts due to late bud break. It shows good resistance to pests such as the hazelnut weevil and bud mite, although it is moderately susceptible to moniliosis. The hazelnut is self-sterile, so for successful fruiting, compatible pollinator varieties should be planted nearby, such as 'Trapesund', 'Barcelonский', or 'Kosford'. It is recommended to use agronomic practices including fertilization, application of root stimulants and humates, as well as measures to protect against diseases and pests. Due to these qualities, the 'Panskyi' variety is suitable for cultivation in various climatic conditions in Ukraine and can be used both in private gardens and in commercial plantations.
