Description
Cultivars of hazelnut variety 'Acorne' are powerful and slender pyramid-shaped bushes reaching up to 4 meters in height under natural conditions. The crown is dense and well-formed, which contributes to high yield. This variety has a medium ripening degree and begins to bear fruit as early as 3–4 years after planting, making it attractive for commercial cultivation and commercial plantations. 'Acorne' is well-suited for training on trellises and cyclic pruning, and it effectively pollinates other hazelnut varieties.
The nuts of variety 'Acorne' are large and elongated, resembling acorns, with a length up to 31 mm and width up to 16 mm. The shell is thin, medium-hardness, reddish-brown with a glossy surface, easily cracks. The kernel is light-colored, almost completely fills the shell, has a juicy, sweet, oily flavor without bitterness. Nuts are arranged in clusters of one to eight pieces, contributing to high yield — up to 8–10 kg per bush at the age of 6–8 years.
Variety 'Acorne' is characterized by high frost resistance up to -25…-30°C and does not require winter protection. It is resistant to major hazelnut diseases and pests, including moniliosis, hazelnut weevil, and bud mite. Thanks to these qualities and excellent taste characteristics of the nuts, this variety is widely used for fresh consumption, confectionery processing, and storage. 'Acorne' is rightfully considered one of the most productive and promising hazelnut varieties for cultivation under various climatic conditions.
