Guar (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba) – a leguminous plant valued as a fodder crop due to its high protein content and ability to fix nitrogen from the air. Green fodder, guar flour, and germ-based feed are used as products, increasing livestock productivity.
The 'Kaspiyec' variety was developed by Astrakhan breeders within the framework of the All-Russian Institute of Plant Breeding branch. It is adapted to southern region conditions and features optimal guar gum quality indicators: small particle size, high aqueous solution viscosity, and suitability for industrial use.
The crop is multi-purpose: seeds, green pods, and leaves can be used as fodder mass or hay. The pods resemble beans, and the leaves resemble spinach, making the plant a useful source of nutrients. Thanks to new varieties, including 'Kaspiyec', guar is becoming a promising crop for irrigation in the region, opening opportunities for agribusiness and expanding the range of vegetable crops.
