Fernor

Fernor — a new high-yielding variety of hazelnut of French selection, a hybrid of Franquette and Lara. This variety is unique in its combination of late flowering and fruiting on lateral branches, which contributes to a higher speed of fruit formation compared to the Franquette variety. The nuts have an elongated, conical shape, medium size with a predominance of fruits over 32 mm, and medium-thick shells with tightly connected halves. The kernel is distinguished by very good quality, light color, delicate taste, and slightly greater sweetness compared to Franquette, while being easily extracted and accounting for 40-44% of the total nut weight. Trees of the Fernor variety are medium-sized with dense, round crowns and large, straight trunks. The variety exhibits high resistance to marsonia, drought tolerance, and cold resistance, ensuring good survival throughout Ukraine. Fruit ripening occurs at the end of September, and fruiting begins on the 6th-8th year after planting. In the best fruiting years, reaching 15-20 years, yields may reach 100-120 kg per tree. The fruits of the Fernor variety are light, well-kept, and suitable for long-distance transportation, making them highly marketable, especially for sale as shelled kernels. The shell easily separates without damaging the kernel, facilitating processing and utilization of the nuts. High taste quality and stable yields make Fernor an attractive choice for cultivation in both commercial and private farms.
