Karagay is a variety of table grape with early ripening, bred at the Kushnarenkovsky Breeding Center of the Bashkir Agricultural Research Institute. The bunch of this variety is medium-sized, conical, with a mass of about 90 grams. The berries are small, round, black, juicy with a simple taste and pink juice color. The berries contain vitamin C in the amount of 9.24 mg%, sugar - 14.3%, and acidity is 0.59 g/l. There are usually 1-3 small seeds in each berry. The tasting score of the variety is 6.4 points, which indicates a good taste and quality of the fruits.
The Karagay variety is distinguished by high frost resistance and resistance to diseases and pests, which allows growing it without winter cover. The best time to plant saplings is spring, before bud break, so that plants can take root and prepare for the winter period. To improve the quality of berries, it is recommended to stop the growth of shoot tops, use potassium fertilizers, ensure access of sunlight to bunches, and also mulch roots and cover bushes with agrofabric at night.
This variety of grape is well adapted to climatic conditions of Bashkiria and is promising for growing in the region. Average yield of the variety reaches 138 centners per hectare, which makes it attractive to gardeners and viticulturists. Karagay is the result of long-term breeding work, started back in the 1930s, and ranks among the most successful varieties recommended for cultivation in this area.
