KEMCHUG pea is a mid-season variety of field pea (Pisum sativum L.) recommended for cultivation in the East-Siberian region. It is characterized by non-shattering pods, shattering resistance, and medium yield of about 17,8 centners/hectare with maximum indicators up to 38,5 centners/hectare. Protein content in the grain varies from 23,9 to 26.6%, making this variety a valuable source of plant protein.
This pea variety has high food and fodder value, contains a significant amount of starch, carbohydrates, vitamins of group B, carotene, and ascorbic acid. Due to its lower glycemic index, KEMCHUG pea is a preferable component in the diet of both humans and animals. Additionally, pea improves the structure of crop rotations, enriching the soil with nitrogen, which has a positive effect on subsequent crops.
KEMCHUG is distinguished by stable yield and good disease resistance, although it is susceptible to ascochitis and root rots. Plants reach a height of 58-63 cm, and pods of length 8-9 cm contain 7-8 large peas of dark green color with excellent taste qualities. The variety is suitable for growing in open ground and is recommended for both fresh consumption and canning. Intensive cultivation technology is necessary to achieve maximum returns.
