The Serzhik garlic variety is a mid-season winter-hardy variety with a sharp flavor, intended for cultivation in garden and vegetable plots. The plant is bulb-forming, with green leaves of medium length, about 54 cm long and 1.7 cm wide, covered with a wax coating of medium intensity. The bulb is round, weighing about 48 grams, and contains 5 to 11 cloves of complex structure. Dry skins have a reddish-white color with anthocyanin stripes, leather skins are brown, and the pulp is white. The yield of the variety reaches 0.7 kg per square meter.
For successful cultivation of Serzhik garlic, it is recommended to choose areas protected from cold winds with good solar heating. The best soils for planting are loose and well-drained. The optimal planting time in regions with moderately cold winters is from mid-October to early November, about 30-35 days before stable cold weather. Before planting, cloves are not soaked; they are laid out in furrows about 5 cm deep at a distance of 15-20 cm from each other, with a 5-7 cm interval between cloves, after which they are covered with dry soil and slightly compacted.
Care of the planting includes regular watering, soil loosening, weeding, and preventive measures against diseases and pests. During frost, the garlic plot is recommended to be mulched with dry leaves, coniferous branches, or needles to protect the plants from freezing. With the arrival of spring, the cover is removed, and a week later the mulch is removed, thereby providing optimal conditions for further growth and development of the garlic.
