CHERCESKY 2 is a hazelnut variety recognized for its stable yield and high fruit quality. The plant features a vigorous bush up to 5–6 m tall with a crown diameter of up to 4 m. The bark is greyish-brown with small light specks; branches depart from the stem at a right angle, creating a spreading crown.
Fruits are of medium size (length approx. 19 mm, width 16 mm), slightly elongated with a pointed tip. The shell consists of two lobes, easily separating at maturity, and the nutcase is thin – approx. 1 mm. The kernel occupies half the nut's mass (approx. 0.8–1 g), containing approx. 70% fat and 17% protein, along with B-group vitamins and vitamin E. Maturation is early – second half of August, allowing harvest by late summer.
The variety is distinguished by high frost resistance and drought tolerance, resistance to pests (hazelnut weevil, bud mite, longhorn beetle) and moderate disease susceptibility. Self-fertility is 95–97%, and pollen viability is 82–86%. Thanks to these characteristics, CHERCESKY 2 is a reliable pollinator for hazel and ensures yields up to 1.5 t/ha of dry nuts in shell. Two-year-old seedlings with thin skin and fruit mass from 1.6 to 4 g are easy to grow in well-lit areas with moist soil; regular watering and pruning promote growth and increased yield.
