Hazelnut «Catalan» is a high-yielding large-fruit hazelnut variety that has proven itself in Europe and Spain thanks to its yield and nut quality. The tree reaches a height of 3 to 6 meters, has a vigorous crown, and can develop in garden conditions as well as on small areas with a planting scheme of 3×4 meters. Nuts are large (up to 4 grams), round or cone-shaped, usually gathered in bunches of 3–5 pieces.
The nut shell is of medium thickness and brittle, has a bronze tint with dark stripes, giving them an attractive appearance. The kernel occupies 38‑40% of the nut volume, is light and juicy, almost completely filling the shell. The taste of nuts is sweet with a pronounced almond aftertaste, and after ripening they easily separate from the shell.
The tree «Catalan» is characterized by high frost resistance and disease resistance, which makes it an ideal choice for garden cultivation even in cold climate conditions. Fruiting begins in the 3rd–4th year, and ripening occurs in early September, ensuring early access to fresh nuts. Due to high yield and product quality, this variety is popular among gardeners and producers.
