Description Svetlana
Freesia – a decorative bulbous plant widely used in gardens and flower beds thanks to its bright, highly fragrant flowers. Flowers are gathered in unilateral groups, bell-shaped, with a diameter of up to 5–7 cm, and can have shades of white, yellow, purple, lilac, blue, red, and raspberry. Their aroma attracts bees and creates an incomparable atmosphere in the garden space.

The plant belongs to the iris family and has thickened stems 20–30 cm long, narrow linear leaves, and bulbs, which are usually grown in greenhouses for cutting. Freesias require well-drained sandy soil, a sunny place, and moderate watering – excess moisture can lead to root rot. For optimal growth, the plant is fertilized with mineral fertilizers twice a month during the active period of growth and flowering.

Freesia is a perennial plant that can be grown both in open ground and in pots on a balcony. After flowering ends, the bulbs are transplanted, choosing large specimens for the next cycle. With proper care, freesias are not subject to serious diseases, but may be affected by spider mites, aphids, and thrips. Thanks to their beauty and aroma, freesia is often used as a decorative plant in flower beds, as well as for decorating holiday events.
