Freesia Briz

Cultivation and Handling of the 'Breeze' Freesia

The 'Breeze' (Briz) freesia, an original cultivar from the Subtropical Scientific Center of the RAS (Georgia), represents a niche asset for specialized cultivation. Unlike standard ornamental flowers, 'Breeze' is bred specifically for high-quality aromatic output, making it a professional choice for aromatherapy and essential oil production.

Operational Requirements

For a farm operator, managing a 'Breeze' crop is about controlling the purity and chemical profile of the plant. Since the end-product is volatile aromatic oils, the use of pesticides must be strictly minimized. Organic pest control is the gold standard here, as chemical residues directly impact the quality and marketability of the extracted oils. The variety demands excellent soil drainage; waterlogging is the primary cause of yield loss and root health issues.

Harvesting and Maintenance

• The window for harvesting is narrow: flowers must be collected in the early morning to capture the peak concentration of aromatic compounds.
• Ventilation is critical during logistics. 'Breeze' flowers are sensitive to heat, which causes rapid dissipation of volatile oils during transit to the processing facility.
• Drip irrigation is highly recommended to manage water consumption efficiently and maintain the root zone moisture levels without triggering fungal diseases.

Managing a 'Breeze' plantation is straightforward for an experienced operator. Regular soil analysis and targeted micro-fertilization allow for consistent control over the flower's aromatic potency. By keeping the growing environment clean and the harvest logistics tight, you ensure the maximum return on this specialized crop.
