Sonnet is a variety of freesia (Freesia Eckl. ex Klatt), obtained as a result of breeding at FSBSI «All-Russian Research Institute of Horticulture and Subtropical Crops». The plant reaches a height of 85 cm, the leaves are light green, and the peduncles are strong and straight. In one bulbous sorting, three peduncles usually form, each bearing from nine to eleven bright flowers. The most notable feature is an inflorescence measuring 12 cm in length, where three to seven buds open simultaneously.
The flowers of the 'Sonnet' variety are medium-sized red with an orange spot, approximately 7.2×6.3 cm in size. They are not double, have a moderately intense aroma and retain their color brightness even after prolonged storage. The pistil is blue, the anthers are purple, and the staminal filaments are white. The reproduction coefficient per bulb is about 3.2 pieces, which makes this variety convenient for commercial cultivation.
Sonnet is characterized by good keeping quality of corms and resistance to diseases and pests, so it is recommended for use both in open ground and in closed conditions. Due to its aesthetic qualities and ease of maintenance, this variety is often chosen for cutting and interior decoration.
