Freesia is a perennial plant of the Iris family, valued for its elegant, funnel-shaped flowers and delicate lily-of-the-valley aroma. Plant height varies from 20 cm to 100 cm: smaller varieties are suitable for windowsills, while larger ones are ideal for flower beds and garden compositions. The leaves are linear, up to 20 cm long and about 1 cm wide, with a clearly defined central vein.
Freesia flowers are gathered in inflorescences of five buds, 3–7 cm high, and come in a wide range of shades: from creamy-porcelain to rich red, burgundy, and purple. Bicolor varieties with a contrasting throat are also common. After flowering, seed pods form at the site of the buds.
Freesia is widely used by florists in bouquets, wedding compositions, and decorative vases thanks to its ability to retain freshness after cutting. The plant is easy to grow both in open areas and at home, while hybrid varieties allow for creating bright garden ensembles. Its aroma can relieve stress and lift spirits, making freesia a popular choice for decorating interiors and events.
