Growing Minovasi Daikon: Field Experience

When working with the Minovasi daikon variety from «Company Lans», the first thing to prioritize is soil preparation. These root vegetables grow to 40–60 cm in length, so they need deep, loose soil. In compacted ground, you won't get a perfect, straight harvest; the roots will twist, which significantly lowers the marketability of the crop. A well-tilled, stone-free bed is the key to achieving the maximum potential of this variety.

Practical Observations for Growers

• Soil Management: Deep plowing or tilling is non-negotiable. If you want that 60 cm length, the root needs zero resistance in the ground.
• Quality and Taste: The flesh is crisp and pure white. The taste is characteristically mild with a subtle sweetness, making it a favorite for culinary use.
• Harvesting: Since the top part of the root sits slightly above the soil line, extraction is usually straightforward, provided you maintain consistent irrigation during the growth phase.

Irrigation is the most critical maintenance factor. Fluctuations in moisture lead to cracked skin and woody textures. When it comes to pest control and maintenance, Minovasi is fairly standard for a cruciferous vegetable, but strict crop rotation is essential to prevent soil-borne diseases.
