Cucumber Jade

Scientific Foundation of Siberian Breeding

The 'Nefrit' cucumber cultivar is the result of rigorous research conducted by the Institute of Cytology and Genetics (IC&G SB RAS). The breeding program, led by Tatyana Meleshkina, focused on developing a hybrid capable of thriving in suboptimal lighting and fluctuating thermal conditions. By applying heterosis breeding, the researchers achieved a plant with high biological robustness tailored for greenhouse environments.

Technical Specifications of the Fruit

• Dimensions: The fruits reach a length of 20–25 cm, aligning with professional standards for greenhouse production.
• Appearance: The skin color ranges from green to light green, offering the consistent aesthetic appeal required for commercial retail.
• Structural Integrity: The density of the internal tissue ensures superior transportability and shelf life, maintaining turgor long after harvest.

Operational Advantages in Greenhouse Farming

The Siberian origin of 'Nefrit' imparts high ecological plasticity to the cultivar. The genetic framework established by the IC&G SB RAS allows the plant to optimize nutrient uptake even under reduced solar radiation. In practical greenhouse applications, this results in stable fruit set and yield, even during cold spells. The length and uniformity of the fruits make this variety an excellent choice for retailers and the HoReCa segment, where standardized, high-quality salad-type cucumbers are consistently in demand.
