Cucumber CHINESE SNAKE

Technical Specifications of the "Chinese Snake" Cucumber

The "Chinese Snake" (Kitayskiy Zmey) hybrid from the Gavrish breeding firm is engineered for high-yield commercial production. It delivers a superior balance between fruit length (20–25 cm) and dense, crisp texture, ensuring the produce remains market-ready throughout the supply chain.

Genetics and Disease Resistance

The core strength of the "Chinese Snake" lies in its robust biological defense system, which significantly reduces the need for chemical intervention. This makes it a reliable choice for both greenhouse environments and open-field cultivation. Key resistance factors include:

• Downy Mildew (Peronospora): The variety is bred to withstand high humidity conditions, minimizing foliage damage.
• Fusarium Wilt: The root system is resilient against soil-borne pathogens, ensuring consistent nutrient uptake under stress.
• Powdery Mildew: The plant maintains its physiological integrity even under high infection pressure.

The fruit morphology—characterized by a dark green color and prominent large tubercles—is a result of focused selection for both aesthetics and functionality. The large spines act as a quality indicator of freshness. Furthermore, the thick, durable skin provides excellent resistance to bruising during harvesting and transport, preserving the cucumber's pristine appearance.

Agronomic Management

To achieve the full potential of the 20–25 cm fruit size, consistent nutrition management is essential. The variety shows excellent response to potash-based fertilizers during the active fruit-setting phase. Unlike many long-fruited varieties, the "Chinese Snake" consistently remains free of bitterness, maintaining a high culinary quality, which makes it highly valued in the fresh-market segment.
