Corn variety Vulcan is a mid-season variety specifically designed for popcorn preparation. The plant reaches a height of 1.5 to 1.8 meters and is characterized by a dense covering of green leaves, the number of which exceeds the usual for sweet corn. Each stalk forms 2 to 4 conical ears, 11-16 cm long and weighing 200-300 g. The kernels have a teardrop shape with a shiny, dense hull of pale yellow or amber-yellow color, ensuring high-quality fluffy popcorn when popped.
The growing period of this variety ranges from 90 to 110 days, with harvest possible in August-September. Vulcan corn requires regular watering and does not tolerate frost, so planting in open ground is recommended from early May to late June, also sown in several batches with a two-week interval for even maturation. Seeds in a 15 g package are sufficient for planting a row about 25 meters long, allowing approximately 75 plants.
The Vulcan variety kernels are ideal for popcorn: popping rate reaches 90-95%, and the popcorn shape resembles a butterfly. Popcorn can be prepared on a skillet, in a cauldron, or in a special appliance, preferably on a gas stove with a thick aluminum or cast iron base, ensuring even heating and excellent results. Microwave or electric stoves are not recommended due to insufficient power for full kernel expansion. The finished treat has a delicate and sweet flavor, which can be enhanced with oil, sugar, or salt. The variety also exhibits high resistance to diseases and pests, making it a reliable choice for cultivation.
