Corn Guest — this is a mid-season hybrid variety with kernels that pop when heated, forming tasty popcorn. The time from germination to technical maturity is about 80 days. The plant is upright, reaching a height of 170 to 220 cm, with thick stems and resistance to lodging. The ears are conical, up to 20-22 cm long, with yellow kernels that expand by 26-28% and crack when heated, ensuring excellent taste. Popcorn from this variety can be enjoyed both salted and sweetened.
Guest F1 variety is characterized by high yield and resistance to high temperatures and drought, making it suitable for cultivation both in southern Ukraine and in more northern regions. Sowing is recommended to be conducted at the end of April — beginning of May directly into open ground on sunny sites with fertile soil rich in humus. Before sowing, seeds should be soaked in warm water to accelerate germination, which begins at temperatures above +8 °C. It is recommended to plant corn in square-nest style with row spacing of 60-70 cm and intra-row spacing of about 35 cm, with 3-4 seeds planted to a depth of 10 cm. For successful pollination, corn should be grown in four-row plantings. Growing corn alongside beans increases yield, as beans serve as natural support for corn.
Harvesting is carried out in August in 2-3 stages, when the top part of the ears dries and the silks turn brown. Delaying harvest is not recommended to preserve the taste of kernels. Ears can be stored without removing the leaves at around 0°C for no more than 20 days. Seeds are packaged in 20 g bags, retaining germination and viability until 2027.
