SAT 240 MV is a simple modified mid-early hybrid maize for grain production with FAO 240, developed by the Institute of Grain Crops of NAAN Ukraine and registered since 2016. The plant is tall, reaching a height of 230-240 cm, and does not bush. The ear is cylindrical, 21-23 cm long, with 14-16 rows of kernels and a red stalk. The kernels are light yellow-orange, dent-shaped, with a 1000-kernel weight of 260-270 g, and grain yield reaches 83-84%. The hybrid is characterized by high cold resistance, resistance to lodging, and resistance to major diseases and pests, ensuring stable yields. The hybrid exhibits intensive reduction in grain moisture during ripening, enabling effective use in various agroclimatic conditions. However, it poorly tolerates prolonged overripening and is not suitable for winter storage. The hybrid has medium drought and heat resistance, but high air temperatures during the final stages of vegetation are especially dangerous. The recommended plant population varies depending on the cultivation zone: 55-60 thousand plants/ha in steppes, 80 thousand plants/ha in forest-steppe, and 90-100 thousand plants/ha in the Polesie region. The potential grain yield of the hybrid is 13.0-13.5 t/ha, with an average yield in ecological trials reaching 7.33-8.51 t/ha at grain moisture of 16-20%. Special attention is given to the technology of growing first-generation seeds, which are produced on a sterile basis using fertility renewal schemes and synchronization of flowering of parental components. This ensures high seed material quality and stable hybrid productivity under improved growing conditions.
