Maize Pivden 480 SV

A Reliable Choice for Intensive Farming

Developed by the Institute of Grain Crops of NAAS, the "Pivden 480 SV" hybrid is a prime example of domestic breeding adapted to the climatic challenges of Ukraine's steppe and forest-steppe zones. This simple hybrid demonstrates high plasticity, making it a reliable solution for both grain production and high-quality silage harvesting.

Agrotechnological Profile

The variety belongs to the mid-late maturity group, requiring 160–180 days to reach full maturity. Its FAO 480–490 rating implies that yield potential is realized best under sufficient moisture levels and high-quality field management. The waxy grain type is particularly valued by processors, offering specific physical and chemical properties in the final product.

• Biological Resilience: Breeders have focused on plant health. The hybrid shows pronounced resistance to common smut, which significantly reduces losses during storage and transportation.
• Phytosanitary Control: High resistance to head smut allows for reduced expenditure on fungicidal crop treatments.
• Versatility: The dual-purpose use for grain and silage provides farmers with flexibility in managing their crop rotation structure.

By investing in "Pivden 480 SV," producers receive a predictable outcome from a breeding program backed by years of field trials in local conditions. It is a balanced choice for farms focusing on intensive corn cultivation technologies with an emphasis on consistent harvest quality.
