Developed by the Selection and Genetics Institute (SGI), Platan MV is a single-cross maize hybrid with an FAO of 240, positioning it as a mid-early maturity variety. With a vegetation period of 105–110 days, it is engineered for efficient grain filling and timely maturity, which is crucial for operational planning in harvest cycles.

Grain Architecture and Yield Potential

The dent-type grain structure of Platan MV ensures high kernel density and excellent dry-down rates. As a simple hybrid, it offers superior genetic uniformity, which translates to synchronized ear development across the field. This uniformity simplifies combine settings, directly reducing field losses during harvesting.

Pathogen Resistance and Field Health

The hybrid’s resilience is built upon deep-seated genetic resistance to primary pathogens, providing a robust defensive layer against common threats:

• Helminthosporium leaf blight: High level of intrinsic resistance protects foliage, maintaining photosynthetic activity throughout the grain-filling phase.
• Smut diseases: Exceptional resistance to common smut and head smut ensures the structural integrity of the stems and reproductive organs.
• Fusarium: Enhanced defense against ear rot, protecting grain quality even in high-humidity harvest conditions.

Planting Density and Management

Optimizing plant population is key to unlocking Platan MV's potential. For sites with favorable water conditions or irrigation, a population density of 70,000–75,000 plants/ha is recommended to maximize ear size. In moisture-stressed environments, lowering the density to 60,000–65,000 plants/ha is advisable to manage resource competition effectively.
