MEL 272 MV — a high-yielding, mid-early maturing corn hybrid with FAO 250, distinguished by high drought and cold tolerance, making it versatile for various climatic conditions. The plant is medium-height, 210–235 cm tall, two-ear, well-leafed, resistant to lodging and stem breakage, but not bushy. The ear is weakly conical, large, 20–24 cm long, with a red-white core and 14–16 rows of large yellow dent kernels. The 1000-seed weight is 260–280 g, and the grain yield upon shelling reaches 82%.
The hybrid is characterized by high dry matter content and favorable ear-to-green mass ratio, enhancing its feed and grain value. It is resistant to diseases and pests, reducing cultivation risks and promoting stable yields. MEL 272 MV responds well to improved growing conditions and exhibits rapid water loss at maturity, facilitating harvest and storage.
Optimal plant density varies by region: 35–40 thousand/ha in southern steppe regions of Ukraine, 50–60 thousand/ha in central regions, 70–80 thousand/ha in northern regions, and 90–100 thousand/ha in the Polissia region. The hybrid’s potential yield reaches 120 centners/ha depending on the cultivation zone and conditions. For enhanced cultivation efficiency, seed treatment with a mixture of insecticide, fungicide, and growth stimulator is recommended.
