KWS Milekano is a simple dent corn hybrid developed by the German breeders at KWS Saat. A key feature of this variety is its kernel morphology: the pronounced dent shape ensures an optimal balance of hard and floury endosperm. In practice, this guarantees a high rate of moisture loss during maturation, which is critical for grain production, allowing for significantly reduced drying costs.

Phytosanitary Resistance as a Profitability Tool

The KWS engineering approach to plant protection is focused on minimizing pathogen pressure. The hybrid demonstrates high resistance to loose smut, preventing commodity crop losses during the ear-filling stage. Resistance to head smut maintains the integrity of the plant's vascular system, ensuring the unimpeded flow of nutrients from the root system to the grain until full physiological maturity.

Field Adaptability

The hybrid features flexibility in stand density requirements, allowing agronomists to adapt planting to specific soil moisture conditions:

• For extensive farming or fields with water deficits, the recommended seeding rate is 45,000–55,000 plants/ha.
• Under moderate moisture conditions, optimal performance is achieved at 60,000–70,000 plants/ha.
• In high-productivity plots with intensive management, a density of 70,000–80,000 plants/ha is acceptable.
