Wheat Protector Odesa

Operational advantages: why shorter stems mean better margins

When selecting winter wheat, managing risk is the top priority for any farm operator. The "Proteksiya Odeska" variety, developed by the Plant Breeding and Genetics Institute (PBGI), offers a highly manageable profile. Standing at just 40–50 cm, this wheat eliminates the common headache of lodging, even in challenging weather. For the operator, this translates into a seamless harvest: the combine header functions optimally, cutting losses and maintaining a consistent intake rate regardless of soil moisture levels.

Field reliability and disease management

Over a 280–290 day growth cycle, the plant exhibits robust natural defenses. This helps significantly in reducing the expenditure on fungicides and machine maintenance. The variety shows strong resistance to:

• Root rot (pink rot), powdery mildew, and rusts.
• Mycosphaerella spot, stem smut, and brown spot.
• Septoria and tan spot (pyrenophora).

This genetic resistance creates a predictable protection strategy. With a potential yield of 11–12 tons, the variety performs well under intensive fertilization. It produces high-quality grain with a gluten content of 25–30%, which is consistently well-received at the market level, ensuring your output hits the required commercial parameters with minimal processing.

Efficiency at harvest

One of the most underrated benefits is the straw management. Because the plant is naturally compact, there is significantly less biomass to manage post-harvest. This reduces the load on your secondary tillage equipment, saves fuel, and prepares the field for the next crop cycle faster. Choosing "Proteksiya Odeska" is an investment in operational efficiency, balancing high yield potential with the technical simplicity required in modern large-scale farming.
