DN Olena

DN Olena — a remontant hybrid of sugar corn with universal use, intended for cultivation in dryland and irrigated conditions of the Steppe zone. The plant reaches a height of 260-280 cm, with the ear attached at a height of 95-105 cm. The ear length is 24-25 cm, containing 16-18 rows of kernels, with 45-48 kernels per row, and the ear stalk is red. The kernels are yellow, dent-shaped, with a kernel yield of 84.6%, and the 1000-kernel weight is 280-290 g.

The hybrid exhibits high resistance to lodging and stem breakage, and is practically immune to major diseases. It belongs to the medium-late remontant hybrids with FAO 440, ensuring its adaptation to the climatic conditions of the Steppe. The recommended planting density is 40-45 thousand plants per hectare in dryland conditions and 55-60 thousand per hectare under irrigation.

DN Olena is promising for grain and silage production, with potential grain yields up to 16.5 t/ha. The maximum yield was recorded at irrigated plots of the Institute of Irrigation of NAAN Ukraine in Kherson and amounted to 15.7 t/ha. Seed production features include growing first-generation seeds on a sterile basis using fertility restoration schemes for parental components, ensuring high-quality planting material.
