Cometa MV

Cometa MV — a medium-maturing hybrid of sweet corn, intended for cultivation in forest-steppe and steppe zones. Plants are tall, reaching 240-260 cm in height, with sturdy stems that are not prone to lodging or breakage. The ear is large and cylindrical, 20-22 cm long, containing 16-18 rows of dent kernels with a red cob. The ear tip is well-covered by husks with low density, facilitating harvesting by combine harvesters. Each plant forms one or two ears at a height of 80-90 cm, contributing to high yields and ease of mechanized harvesting. The hybrid exhibits high drought and cold tolerance, resistance to a range of diseases including bubble and fly maggot, stalk fusarium, helminthosporiosis, and root rots. It is also tolerant to corn borer. Due to its rapid water release during ripening, Cometa MV is suitable for various climatic conditions and demonstrates stable yield performance under both good and moderate moisture conditions. The optimal planting density is approximately 80,000 plants per hectare, ensuring maximum grain yield of 11-12.5 tons per hectare. To achieve high yields, adequate mineral nutrition is recommended. The hybrid Cometa MV is suitable for both grain production and green mass for silage, with silage planting density increased by 10-15,000 plants per hectare. Thanks to its biological and agronomic characteristics, this Ukrainian hybrid is a national standard among medium-maturing varieties and represents a profitable and cost-effective solution for farmers.
