Chrysanthemum Stepivchanka

Flowering Architecture and Physiological Traits

Stepyvchanka is a selective breed developed by the M.M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden, specifically optimized for the Ukrainian climate. Technically, it is a bush-type chrysanthemum with fixed dwarfing genetics, keeping stem height within the 30 cm range. This compactness eliminates the need for mechanical supports or growth regulators, making it an efficient choice for border landscaping.

Inflorescence Specifications

The primary technical highlight of this variety is the disproportionately large flower diameter (10+ cm) relative to its compact size. The pompon shape is achieved through dense layering of ray florets, resulting in a firm, spherical structure. The vibrant yellow-to-orange pigmentation is driven by high carotenoid concentration. The absence of fragrance is a deliberate breeding outcome aimed at minimizing attraction to specific insect pests.

Agronomic Metrics

• Vegetation Cycle: Early flowering (starting in September) ensures the plant completes its decorative cycle before significant frosts, which is essential for open-ground cultivation.
• Root System: The dense bushy habit requires well-drained soil to prevent root neck rot during autumn precipitation.
• Application: This variety serves as a specialized tool for landscaping, prioritizing the ratio between a low-profile habit and large generative organs.

In conclusion, Stepyvchanka represents a technically precise solution for open-ground gardens, requiring minimal intervention to maintain its structural and aesthetic integrity.
