Chrysanthemum Malvina

Practical Guide to Cultivating 'Malvina'

Developed by the M.M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden of the NAS of Ukraine, this chrysanthemum variety is a staple for low-maintenance landscaping. Standing at a maximum height of 30 cm, this bush-type plant is engineered for stability, eliminating the need for supports or time-consuming staking during the growing season.

Maintenance and Field Performance

• Growth Habit: The compact, bushy nature of 'Malvina' ensures a uniform aesthetic for borders and front-row displays. Proper spacing (30-40 cm) is key to maximizing airflow and preventing humidity-related issues in the root zone.
• Flowering Cycle: Blooming in September, this early-flowering variety serves as a crucial late-season anchor for the garden, maintaining visual interest when other perennials begin to fade.
• Operational Care: With medium-sized flowers (5-10 cm in diameter), water management is straightforward. Aim for base irrigation to keep the blooms dry, especially during September rains, which prolongs the life of the blossoms and preserves the decorative integrity of the plant.

For open-ground applications, 'Malvina' is a robust choice that aligns with local climatic conditions. It is a predictable performer that doesn't collapse under the weight of its own flowers or moderate winds. By minimizing the need for manual structural maintenance, this cultivar allows growers to achieve a high-quality landscape design with minimal overhead in time and effort.
