Description

Meyotida cherry is a late-ripening variety developed in 1966 at the Institute of Irrigated Horticulture of UAAN through pollination of the Drogana yellow variety with a pollen mixture of the Large-fruited variety. Trees of this variety are large, fast-growing with an open canopy, well-adapted to winter cold and drought, ensuring stable fruiting without periodic yield drops. They begin fruiting in the 4th year after planting, and by the age of 14, yield reaches 80 to 153 kg per tree, indicating high productivity.

The fruits of Meyotida cherry have a round-heart shape and dark red, almost black color with a glossy, thin, and dense skin. The average berry weight is 9–11 grams. The flesh is dark red, juicy, with a pleasant sour-sweet taste, slightly firm but tender. The juice is also dark red. Fruit detachment is dry, facilitating harvesting. Due to good transportability, Meyotida cherry is suitable for both fresh consumption and market sales.

This variety is recommended for cultivation in the North Caucasus region and other areas with similar climatic conditions. For optimal pollination and maximum yield, it is recommended to plant alongside varieties such as Donetsk Uglyk, Drogana Yellow, Valeriy Chkalov, Donetsk Beauty, Donchanka, and Ethica. Meyotida cherry is a versatile variety combining high productivity, excellent taste qualities, and resistance to adverse weather conditions.
