Hebros

Hebros — a high-yielding hybrid of cherry and sour cherry, developed by breeders L.V. Taranko and A.V. Sychev at the Donetsk Experimental Garden Station. This variety combines the best qualities of its parent varieties — "Griot Ostegaim" and "Valeriy Chkalov". The trees are medium-sized with beautiful, wide-oval crowns and thick gray-brown branches. They begin fruiting on the 3rd–4th year after planting, making them attractive for both private gardeners and commercial cultivation.

The fruits of Hebros are large, weighing about 9–10 grams, dark red in color, and flat-round in shape. The flesh is sweet, free of acidity, with a distinct cherry-cherry aroma. The pit is small and easily separates from the flesh. The juice of the fruits is a rich red or dark red color. The variety ripens in the last decade of June, allowing for an early harvest. The cherry is versatile in use — suitable for fresh consumption as well as various types of preservation.

Hebros exhibits good winter hardiness and resistance to several diseases, enabling successful cultivation even in cold regions with frequent disease outbreaks. Thanks to these qualities and its high taste potential, confirmed by a tasting score of 4.7 out of 5, this variety is rightfully considered promising for further breeding development and widespread use in horticulture.
