Purple Queen is a late-maturing carrot hybrid, characterized by an upright leaf rosette and an elongate-conical, pointed root with a length of 18 to 27 cm and a weight of 130 to 200 g. The root has a dark purple color with possible yellow spots at the places where lateral roots branch off. In cross-section, the cortex is partially purple, while the part adjacent to the core is yellow-orange with a thin core with a diameter of 2.0-2.5 cm. The variety is distinguished by its uniform shape and good taste, making it ideal for fresh consumption, home cooking, as well as for long-term storage and production of food dyes. It is especially recommended for preparing borscht and vinaigrettes.
The hybrid is resistant to bolting and cracking of roots, which contributes to high yield — from 3.6 to 5.3 kg per square meter. The period from germination to technical maturity is 110-120 days. For optimal growing, sowing seeds is recommended at the end of April – beginning of May at a depth of about 1 cm with a row spacing of 15 cm, and after the appearance of seedlings, thinning out should be carried out, leaving 5-7 cm between plants. The variety is also well suited for winter sowing, which increases growing efficiency.
