Cabbage Mariposa

Genetics and Pathogen Resistance

The 'Mariposa' white cabbage hybrid from the Dutch breeding company Bejo is engineered to deliver consistent yields under high pathogen pressure. A core technological advantage of this hybrid lies in its robust genetic defense mechanism against Fusarium yellows (Fusarium oxysporum) and vascular wilt (black rot). For growers, this translates into significantly reduced operational risk in fields where soil-borne pathogens are prevalent, ensuring stable plant health throughout the growing season.

Morphology and Marketability

The heads of Mariposa exhibit optimized geometry and density, catering to the requirements of the commercial produce market. With an average weight range of 3.0 to 4.0 kg, this hybrid offers the precise sizing preferred by both wholesale buyers and retail chains. The structural integrity of the internal leaves combined with high-quality wrapper leaves provides excellent durability for logistics and storage.

Industrial and Retail Versatility

• Fresh Market: The cabbage maintains its aesthetic appeal and crisp texture, making it a premium choice for direct retail sales.
• Processing: Its density and chemical composition render Mariposa suitable for industrial processing, including fermentation, providing growers with multiple revenue streams.

By opting for this Bejo hybrid, producers gain access to world-class Dutch seed technology designed to maximize productivity and yield reliability in diverse farming environments.
