Cabbage Rosalie

Technical performance of Rosali Savoy cabbage

This breeding development from the Institute of Vegetable and Melon Growing of NAAS is designed for professional growers focused on the long-term storage market. Unlike standard white cabbage varieties, 'Rosali' offers a unique distribution of biochemical compounds in its leaves, making it a critical asset for the fresh market during the winter and spring seasons.

Head architecture and vegetation cycle

This mid-to-late hybrid requires a vegetation period of 130–140 days from transplanting. Its flat-round head shape ensures uniform density distribution, which is essential for mechanized harvesting and logistics. The average weight of a marketable head ranges from 2.0 to 3.0 kg, an optimal range for retail chains that eliminates the need for trimming before sale.

Storage and shelf-life characteristics

The primary advantage of this variety lies in its tissue resistance to degradation. 'Rosali' maintains its marketability for 6–8 months when stored under proper temperature and humidity conditions. The dense leaf structure and high dry matter content minimize the risk of grey mold and other pathogens common in long-term storage environments. The Savoy-type leaf provides not only superior flavor but also high elasticity, significantly reducing post-harvest losses during handling and transport.
