Cabbage Korsum

Technological Potential of the Korsuma Hybrid

Rijk Zwaan has engineered the Korsuma hybrid to strike a precise balance between rapid growth and environmental plasticity. For the professional grower, this translates into operational flexibility and the ability to manage the production cycle across a wide range of growing conditions.

Biological Defense and Head Formation

The core of Korsuma's genetic architecture is its robust resistance to Fusarium wilt. In the context of modern soil-borne pathogens, this trait mitigates the critical risks of plantation loss. The plant possesses a powerful leaf canopy, ensuring the high photosynthetic efficiency required to fill heads weighing 3.0–4.0 kg.

Economic Utility

• Form Factor: The round head configuration allows for high-density packing during transport and warehousing, effectively reducing logistical overhead.
• Market Versatility: The hybrid is equally suited for the fresh market due to its high aesthetic appeal, and for industrial processing. The dry matter content and leaf structure allow the product to withstand mechanical harvesting and long-term storage without losing turgor.

Technically, Korsuma was designed as a reliable workhorse for operations where result consistency is paramount, regardless of microclimate fluctuations. The lack of susceptibility to cracking during the maturation phase is a direct result of Rijk Zwaan’s breeding efforts focused on the density of the internal head layers.
