Rubin raspberry is the first in the world remontant variety that fruits on one-year shoots of the current year. This high-yielding variety was developed by breeders of the University of Arkansas in cooperation with the Hargreaves nursery from England and became available for sale in Europe since 2011. The bushes are compact, vertically oriented, reaching up to 2 meters in height, do not require support and do not sprawl, which simplifies care and planting. The shoots are strong, thick, resistant to wind loads and fruit weight, with thorns that fall off after berry harvest. The flowers are large, white, blooming from early April.
The fruits of the Rubin raspberry are large, oval-shaped, reaching up to 4.5 cm in length and about 10 grams in weight, with a very sweet and balanced flavor. The berries are well-suited for long-distance transportation, making this variety attractive for commercial cultivation. Yield per mature bush can reach up to 14.5 kg. Fruit production occurs twice: on last year's shoots from late June to late July, and on current year's shoots from late August to late October, allowing for a prolonged harvest of fresh berries.
The Rubin variety is characterized by high winter hardiness and disease resistance, does not require covering even in harsh winters due to the fact that shoots are pruned after fruiting. The plants tolerate drought well and can grow on various soil types, making them suitable for cultivation under different climatic conditions, including partially shaded areas. Regular watering and mulching are recommended to maintain plant health. Intensive cultivation using one-year-old stems allows obtaining ecologically clean produce without chemical protection agents.
