Blackberry Agata

The 'Agata' blackberry variety is a universal option for gardeners, distinguished by high yield and excellent berry taste. The bushes have a semi-vertical structure, powerful stems, and a moderate cane productivity. Two-year-old stems are colored in purple-brown shades, while one-year-old canes are purple, without a waxy coating or thorns.

The leaves are large, dark green, wrinkled, and slightly twisted. The leaflet edges have medium-sharp teeth. The side fruiting branches are slightly hairy, sometimes covered with a light wax. The flowers are large, and the berries are conical, black in color, with a medium weight ranging from 4.8 to 6.3 grams. The pulp is tender, tart-sweet, with no pronounced aroma. The berries contain 8.1% sugar, 1.8% acid, and 8.8 mg of vitamin C.

'Agata' is characterized by good resistance to drought, heat, and frost down to -24 °C. The culture does not require special conditions: it is suitable for various soil types with proper preparation and spring pruning. To protect against winter cold, it is recommended to cover the canes after the onset of negative temperatures using boards or plastic bottles with water, then cover them with wind-proof material. With sufficient snow cover (from 20 cm), protection is not mandatory. Thanks to resistance to pests and diseases, 'Agata' ensures a stable yield of about 20.9 c/ha on average.
