Bean ZINAIDA

Technical Overview: Zinaida Pole Bean

The 'Zinaida' cultivar, developed by the North Caucasus Research Institute of Mountain and Foothill Horticulture, is a specialized variety of pole (climbing) snap bean. Unlike bush bean varieties, this cultivar requires a vertical trellis system, which is an essential agronomic decision to maximize yield density and ensure superior ventilation of the foliage, directly impacting plant health and pod quality.

Morphological Traits and Commercial Value

The core technical advantage of 'Zinaida' lies in its lack of a parchment layer and coarse fibers within the pod valves. This characteristic defines its culinary utility as a premium snap bean (green bean), suitable for fresh consumption, canning, or freezing. At the stage of technical maturity, the pods retain a vibrant green color and a consistent, tender texture.

• Biological Type: Snap (sugar/vegetable) bean.
• Growth Habit: Vining/climbing; requires physical support.
• Seed Characteristics: Seeds are white, serving as a marker for cultivar purity and high-grade seed production.

In practice, the 'Zinaida' variety offers high productivity combined with uniformity. Because the pods lack fibrous tissues, they maintain their structural integrity during thermal processing, making them an excellent choice for industrial-grade frozen vegetable production and professional culinary applications.
