ZHIGULI

Zhiguli is a winter barley variety registered in 2007 and intended for grain-forage use. The variety's pedigree includes the Horizont and Parallelum 402 lines. The plant is characterized by a semi-prostrate, medium-length tiller, with semi-erect, cylindrical, and dense heads that have a six-rowed structure. The grain is semi-elongated, of medium size, with a non-hairy abdominal groove and frontal lodicule. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 29 to 43 grams.

The variety is medium-maturing with a vegetation period ranging from 223 to 275 days. It possesses good winter hardiness and drought resistance comparable to the level of the Rostov 55 variety. Zhiguli is resistant to lodging, which helps preserve the yield under unfavorable weather conditions. However, the variety is susceptible to powdery scab and is affected by helminthosporiosis and powdery mildew to a medium degree.

The average yield of the variety reaches 52.8 centners per hectare, with maximum indicators up to 82.7 centners. The protein content in the grain ranges from 8.3 to 14.4%, while starch content ranges from 45 to 50%. Due to its characteristics and adaptability, the Zhiguli variety is successfully cultivated in the Rostov region and other regions, ensuring stable production of quality grain for forage purposes.
